Mercury MerCruiser 4.5, 6.2 and 8.2L Engine

Date posted

The Hazard

The engine is fitted with a power-assisted steering pump. Marine Power International has discovered contaminants in Type B pulleys (which do not have windows). It is believed that these contaminants originate from the internals of the pump itself. The presence of contaminants in the pump can lead to overheating which could potentially lead to a fire.

What to do

Consumers are requested to take their engine to a Mercury dealer who will check the engine's power assisted steering pump to determine whether the pulley has no windows. If so, the dealer will repair the engine by replacing the pulley.
