Retractable 3-point seatbelts imported by Business Ventures Limited (BVL)

Date posted

The Hazard

Independent testing found that seatbelts manufactured by Changzhou BWD may fail in a car crash.

Investigation found that seatbelts manufactured by Jiang Su Jiu Jiu are non-compliant and may not provide the required protection in a crash.

Failure or poor performance of a seatbelt in a car crash can result in serious injury or death.

What to do

If you have replacement 3-point seatbelts in your car seat, or are not sure, check the seatbelt labels. A WoF inspector will be able to help if you need.

If the belts have BVL and either Changzhou BWD or Jiang Su Jiu Jiu on them you will need to get them replaced. NZTA advise not to drive the vehicle if the belt is fitted to the drivers seat. If the belts are fitted to passenger seats do not use those seats.

To get your BVL 3-point seatbelts replaced free of charge, contact the place of purchase or Business Ventures Limited (BVL).
