Aftermarket replacement seatbelt recall - you need to take action

Important reminder

Your car will fail it's next Warrant of Fitness (WoF) if it has recalled BVL seatbelts.

Late last year the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) issued a safety alert finding that BVL seatbelts may not work in a crash and other compliance issues. The importer BVL (Business Ventures Limited) issued a recall of all its aftermarket replacement 3-point retractable seatbelts to provide affected car owners with a safe solution.

At the end of August 2019 only 15% of recalled BVL seatbelts had been replaced. Seatbelts are an essential safety feature and these seatbelts may not work in a crash and we need you to take a few minutes to check the seatbelts in your car to make sure its safe.

If you have had replacement seatbelts fitted in the last 10 years or you if you don’t know if the seatbelts have bene replaced, we need you to check them. The Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association (LVVTA) has put together a useful video that helps you identify the recalled seatbelts.

If you find recalled BVL seatbelts in your car contact BVL by email (info@bvl.co.nz) or phone 09 574 6724.
